Post subject:  Rover boot seal on Mini K

I recently purchased a Rover style boot seal that attaches to body (CKE10018) and I'm having some issues trying to close the boot.

Not sure if its just the rubber being new or whether it straight up doesnt fit my 69 Mini K

According to Mini Plus website, the seal should fit all minis https://www.minisplus.com.au/classic-mi ... ll-on-body

thanks in advance

According to Minisport SA that boot seal is meant for 1988 to 2000 models i.e. UK models.
I'm not sure if they should fit an Aust'n mini but they appear to use pinchweld to hold the seal in place, which becomes a fairly thick lump to be compressing to get the boot lid closed.
The original seal goes on the boot lid and closes against the flange on the boot opening but with only a light pressure. I think the Rover one is too thick to work the same way.
The seal that fits to the boot lid (14A6584) is more expensive but they seem to last forever. I have one on my mini K.
And, don't bother using the little clips to fit that seal - just use contact adhesive. MiniSpares website has advice on orienting the seal correctly.

It is possible that this one would be a better buy.

There is no difference in the bodies so it will fit as well as it does to a Rover.

Hi, I have one on my mk1 cooper S and it fits but it's definitely hard to close the boot and lock the latch.
This is only temporary until I fit the correct one, one of those tomorrow jobs I'm not looking forward to.

I have a rover boot seal on my Deluxe - no problems at all with it fitting.
The seals can be tight when new till they settle a bit.

To install the clips what I found works best is a tool with a 90 degree end. It means that they can be pushed straight in, not on an angle.

This is what I used.

I followed this procedure and it worked very well.

Took my time installing the boot seal with clips, following Cafe Racer Labs very helpful video (linked below).

Maybe I expected worse, but it really wasnt too bad. Some of clips took 3 or 4 attempts and had pliers slip onto the paint once or twice nothing major.

Boot closes (unlike with the rover seal), but its still a bit of a struggle... imagine this will get easier as the rubber compresses.

It will be difficult to close at first like you have found (I used to have to lean on mine). After a while it will be easy.
