I have electronic ignition. I carry a spare 29D dizzy with points. Timing is preset, I just drop it in turn plate clockwise and tighten screws. |

If you have points then some wd40 plus a plastic jerry can and radiator fluid. Also previous discussion here which covers everything from every day to cross country viewtopic.php?f=2&t=68074&hilit=Kit+Breakdown |

Distributor cap, rotor and leads. I would probably carry a spare fuel pump, I still need to add in a spare in my mini. Edit: The reason I would take a fuel pump is because I have had it happen and I would guess it would be the most likely thing after ignition and cooling issues. I was driving a mini which had recently had the fuel pump rebuilt (I think it was a few days before). There was an additional part probably designed to stop fuel ending up in the sump, it decided to vacuum itself to the case stopping the pump from working |

Murphys law will suggest that regardless of what you take you will still not have the correct part. However piece of mind is a big part of any road trip and there are many opinions on this subject. Some will say a roadside assistance membership and a mobile phone is best. Anothe line of thought is if you suspecct something may break then you should change it before you leave anyway. And I must admit that what usually causes a breakdown is something that was avoidable. For what it is worth here is my list. Portable jump starter. Spare points distributor complete (at the very least a coil and condenser) Plugs and lead set. Roll of wide strong tape (fixes most hoses temporarily) 3 litres of water (got caught out once with only 1 litre) 500ml oil Fuses to suit your needs Multimeter Basic hand tools Spare wheel, jack and wheel brace etc. My thoughts are that the fuel system is unlikely to strand you but ignition, battery, fuses, cooling and flat tyres will. |
