Evening all, I have a 1970 Mk2 S block and I'm curious as to how these compare in bare weight to the solid chest 1100s blocks. Does anyone have figures to share?
My curiosity was sparked by a conversation with a mate who has a Chapmanesque obsession with weight reduction.

On TM forum an unspecified 1275 bare block with caps was 32.205 kg. Thin flange, thick flange, tappet chest etc, no idea. I once experimented with drastic weight reduction in the mini: It involved going down the road on three only wheels......highly successful in weight reduction but my times strangely didn't improve. ( true story but kidding to make a point) . Pick the best , strongest block for lots of things BUT weight should not be one of those factors. There is /was a 500 ish kg mini on that forum ( Paul someone) where everything was targeted for weight reduction , and at one stage cost per kilo ratings brought up as well..... I am not sure if that particular thread is there but some very interesting reading.

These are the weights i have for the blocks with in a kg or so as some blocks were not std bore.
MK 1 "S" thin flange 66 LB or 30KG
MK 2 "S" 71 LB or 32 KG
1100 "S" thick flange 74 LB or 34 KG
South African block 1275 35 LB or35 KG
998 thick flange 68 LB or31 KG
