Post subject:  US Cooper S Build - What green

A few years ago, there was a stunning build thread for Cooper S in the United States. I remember drooling over the pics. I'm about to paint Barney and want to confirm the colour of the car. It may have been connaught green, but I cant be sure. Can anyone recall the thread and the owner?

As one previous owner, it's good to hear Barney is getting new gloss.
The bloke we sold him to was going to repaint him, but it never happened.

I think you will find connaught green is blacker/"dirtier" than mmalleck's green. My car was connaught green originally, previous owner painted it a lighter greener green, possibly GTO green. See pick below with original connaght green on the inside door (and door window surrounds under the chrome which they didn't remove before painting). I haven't paint stripped the doors yet, so I can post more pictures if you require.

That car is New British Racing Green - a colour used from late 1965 to late 1967

The original colour was BRG, but he said he painted it Connaught

The paint is "almost" perfect. Gunnar and I have found a couple of tiny flaws, but not worth a panel respray. But our eyes always catch those two spots.

Yes, color is connaught green, Glasurit base/clear. I tried several colors on test panels. This color was pretty close to what was behind the doors and under the vinyl on the dash. Original paint color is New BRG.

Cooper,
I am sorry but there is very little point in dreaming over car colours in photos. There are just so many variables such as camera type, angle and lighting that it will look different in every picture. Then you must add on the differences in our colour perception, the age of the photo and probably also the screen that you are looking at the picture on.
As paints have changed over the last 60 years so have the colours and the stability of the colours over time.
To prove my point, I took three photos of my car this morning in the garage SAME CAMERA, SAME ANGLE.
(Please excuse the dirt on the car). One uses the camera flash, one in just the light inside the garage but with the door open and the third has been pushed about 1 metre closer to the open door.
I am sure that it would be different again outside in the bright but cloudy light and different again in sunlight.
Pretend that your car is like your children; it what they are like on the inside that is more important than just their looks from the outside.

You would think I would have seen enough in the flesh by now. I'll be happy just to have all Barney's panels the same colour for the first time in around 15 years.

So true. My Dino's colour is blu scuro (dark blue, non metallic) and it changes more dramatically (nearly a royal blue to blue/black) than your green depending on lighting, camera, time of day taken etc etc as you stated. Not everyone has colour corrected monitors to look at car pics on. Most colours are just like that and personal perception plays a large part as well.
For connaught green, there appears to be many british margues with the same colour name (MG, triumph, Jaguar and others) around that era and then the newer minis have a connaught green as well. I see in the "how to section, PPG paint codes", there is no listing for connaught green.
Still in two minds as to whether to paint mine connaught green again (with crystal white roof). At least if I chose to, I have the inside of the doors which have been covered with door trim for 50+ years to get a reasonable scan of the colour.
