I handed my gearbox to a reputable mini rebuilder 18mths ago. It was already clean and all new bearings, layshaft & laygear (NOS) supplied. He replaced 1st gear, all baulk rings, thrust washers and it was around the $1300 region not including diff or gasket sets. So mostly labour (and by labour i mean knowledge), and a job well done i was happy to pay it even though I could have done it myself.
But that was my scenario, and i would suggest that would be a ball park minimum. If they are pulling the engine and find other things you can start multiplying that number by 3,4,5…. As Timmy suggests it would be a false economy to not check other things while the engine is out & split.
