Hi all. I am looking for some advice please. I have a 1969 Morris mini. The indicators recently stopped working so I have fitted a new flasher can. Indicators now work fine left and right but when indicating both of the dash lights are flashing simultaneously as if there was hazzard lights. Can I ask if anyone has seen this before or suggestions? Thankyou |

Mine will sometimes flash both dash lights when it's turning off, but not all the time. I think I have heard of other people with the same problem as you.... but I think the fix was just a different kind of flasher |

What flasher was in it and what is the new one? I wouldn't have thought that could happen as when there are directional lights they are wired parralel to the indicators and has a two pin flasher. At least that is what I have in my later minis. |

I had a Morris 1500 years ago that had that problem when I bought it from memory I just got a new flasher can and it fixed it |

Edit to my post above, mine doesn't do double flashes any more, but used to. I have an "LED compatible" flasher not that uses electronics to decide what to flash and when rather than the old mechanical style. Leaning on "Cunningham's Law", the original flasher can worked by the current draw of the two (electrically parallel) indicators in series with the dash light, heating up a metallic strip in the flasher can that made it click in and off. The old flasher cans were pretty inefficient but did their job reliably for as long as they could. Modern flasher cans are much more efficient and probably work slightly differently internally. The double dash light flash may just be that it's putting a little bit of voltage through the "wrong side" indicators which is enough to get the dash light going, but not enough for the actual indicator... |

It’s a Poor earth somewhere, finding whatever way it can to complete the circuit. Probably the earth for the dash lights. |

I've spent the last hour and a half staring at the circuit diagram, and I think the only way both dash lights can flash at the same time is if there is conductive gunk in the indicator stalk mechanism. Take the cowling off, take the stalk off and give it a clean |

Apologies I have been offline. Thankyou so much for the above responses. I will definitely check the indicator stalk. I did have it off when I was trying to find the issue before I bought the new flasher can and it was a dog to get back on so many have pinched one of the wires. Really appreciate your suggestions. I will let you know how I go. Shame that work gets in the way of working on my mini.

The original Flasher was a 3pin Lucas 12v 42w with a ground tab on the top. The new one is also a 3pin 12v but I will need to check it may be 45w also with a ground tab. Could the difference be the culprit? |

Something is not right here. the 3 pin flasher is for a single warning lamp, usually on the stalk but sometimes in the speedo. the 2 separate warning lamps should have a 2 pin flasher. The connections are different so 2 and 3 pin flashers are not interchangeable. |

Well of gou learn something new the day has not been wasted. I have not seen that diagram before, all mine show it as I said earlier. With the one shown it is quite feasible for both warnings to be on together, it is dependant on load of the lamps being almost exactly equal and correct. |
