I am thinking of installing a hoist and was just curious about other mini owner experiences.
Looking at the 4 post hoist with the thought being I could store two minis up in the air however I couldn’t find one long enough without spending a fortune.
So what do people prefer 2 or 4 post?

Thanks

Tom

Hi, having had both hoists in workshops, my personal preference is 2 post. I have two in my home workshop, one expensive brand left over from my factory, and it is terrific, for height, access, stability, etc, but the feet on the floor are frustrating with low minis, as i often have to jack them up, and push backwards and forwards
The second one is a chinese $2300 one, easy loading and arms system, but have to go to other side of car to release the safety all the time, and it seems to take 10 minutes to lower itself, and a light car like a mini would take forever.
I found the ramps on the 4 poster always in the road, and they are really too wide for a mini. You have to jack up an end at a time to take wheels off. You can put cars under a 2 post.

I recently bought one of the single post portable hoists, specifically for only working on the Mini.

It’s a great option, as it can be moved about on a pallet Jack type system.

My only dislike is that I need to jack the car up and then roll the mini under.

The quality is pretty good though.

That's quite neat, haven't seen one like that before. Handy to he able to move it around, but would be neat recessed into the floor too

Ah that's a shame. I was researching them recently and hoped the 100mm clearance would be enough for a mini to drive on.

Is clearance the problem you're having, or am I missing something else?

I have both.
The 4 poster is best for storage and parking another car underneath as it's easier to put something in place to deal with the upper car's oil leaks.
2 poster is better for doing repairs. You can still do repairs on a 4 post, it's just a little more cumbersome at times.
For an allrounder at home whose main purpose is to double your parking space, I vote for the 4 post.
For full time maintenance use, get the 2 post.
