Can anyone tell me if all Cooper S Mk1 and Mk2 had vinyl trim in the windscreen pillars. I have read that the trim was deleted during the life of the Mk1 on UK cars. It raised the question whether or not we did something similar in Australia. It is my next job on a Mk2 S.

No vinyl trim on the A pillars on Australian built cars, just body colour paint.

Have you sourced the correct vinyl yet? I am yet to do so. I bought some from Minispares and is too thick. I have spoken to Allcar carpets, their supplier of the "correct" must be still out of stock. I will have to email them again. Does anyone have any other contacts to get the correct vinyl?

Yes. When I dismantled the car nearly 40 years ago, the vinyl wasn’t in the best condition. The top & bottom rails came off in mostly single pieces, but I can’t bring myself to use it again.

I'm not saying this is the 'original' or 'correct' factory pattern but this is what I am using for the dash rails as it is vaguely similar in pattern and shape.

Bought from a local upholstery supplier (not Daleys) and looks very suitable when fitted.
It is an auto vinyl branded "Innova" and the pattern range is "Pacifica".
