Where can one buy Pirelli rubber seat back webbing locally. I want to make my own not buy pre made.

I went to my local auto trimmers and they suggested the modern green/black style and sold me a roll. It’s not the original Pirelli style, but has held up for a few years and is obviously a lot more comfy than the fossilised old ones

Furniture upholsterers use it too, its quite expensive though. I just got some chairs reupholstered that had it and went for non-Pirelli as a replacement.

timmy201 did you reuse original metal hardware?

Yes, I reused the original clips. Mine were similar in concept to staples, I straightened them out and then poked them through the new webbing and folded them flat again.

The trick is knowing how much preload to add to them to make them firm enough

Same here as what timmy201 did, used green/black webbing from local trimmer, 6m needed for 2 seats. Have a record of what lengths I cut each strap based in original straps if that's any use. Used original hardware. Have seen a similar webbing at a local Clarke Rubber store.

cgo that's great and would like your measurements too. Is your webbing 50mm wide?

Cooperess, used 50mm webbing, it is wider than the original but being flexible it can be made to fit original hardware.
Image below shows the measurements I used for seats in my 1970 round nose.
Good idea to make one trial strap, I made the 4th horizontal strap first because if it was too short/too tight I could us this strap in a higher narrower position. I test fitted it to the seat frame to ensure it was a suitable fit and proceeded from there one strap at a time.
To explain the measurements.
1. I removed the old Pirelli straps and measured their unstretched lengths between folded ends, shown in column B, these straps were badly stretched and I had use trial and error to obtain reasonable support from the new straps.
2. Consider the number 4 horizontal strap, I cut it at 465mm (column D), placed 2 marks each one at 35mm from each end and folded the strap at these points, the effective unstretched length of the strap is 465mm - 70mm = 395mm (column C). I then attached the wire hooks at these folded points then used wire "staples" and aluminium plate to fix the hook in place.
3. Attached the strap to the seat frame to check tension.
4. Adjusted one end to shorten or lengthen as necessary.
5. Make next strap.

I hope the lengths are in the correct ball park for you.

If you want original, like I did, I purchased Pirelli webbing from Padgham Upholstery Supplies in Melbourne. I glass bead blasted the original tabs and staples and reused them. I was happy with the result.

I used Intes Elasbelt 450R.
I'm happy with the comfort of the finished seats

I used the same style of webbing, as show, that is often used in furniture suspensions . Lasted 2 years before it gave way. Maybe I got a bad batch or certain supplies are below standard but I didnt hang around to find out. Replaced it with correct 38mm Pirelli webbing from Woolies in England. They also have the correct clips.
