The 1st motion shaft gear with 18 teeth is a major difference and a Cooper S Laygear. |

Just want to be sure that a non FAXE case is ok to fit a Mk2 engine. |

Yep, no problem at all. The only tangible difference in the gearbox case assembly is the diff side plate covers, but obviously they're very interchangeable. I have pot joints on my FAXE case *cough*IdohaveaspareFAXEcaseifyouwantonethough*cough* |
