Post subject: | Mini Headlining Types and Production Period Use |
At least three pattern types of vinyl was used to make the headlining for Australian assembled Minis. I'm trying to establish the various styles and the dates they were used in production. All models of Mini used the same headlining in the same period, meaning there was no difference for a Cooper S versus Mini K versus Mini Matic, etc. I'm told type 1 (below) was used originally and then Type 2 replaced it, sometime in the late 1960's, but this is what needs confirmation. Type 3 appeared in the 1970's during the Clubman / Leyland Mini era. My August 1970 Cooper S has Type 2 fitted. What do you think? Not suggesting yours is a later aftermarket type by the way. I don't know but learning from this chat. Be aware I posted on the Ausmini FB Group and there's been lots of responses. https://www.facebook.com/groups/2503682 ... 1879920567 |

A sample of the closest pattern to type 2 has arrived and shown below. The manufacturer says the embossing can be adjusted so it is less pronounced and so more like the original. What do people think? Attachment: Headlining Sample.jpg

I wonder if the original was closer to the new sample but has “stretched “ over time? |

You could be right. But the new one has too many fat bits. |
