There have been lots of discussions on Ausmini about this. Browse through the search option.
Most of the early original codes for "Metallic Green (Metallic)" in Duco, Dulux, Berger etc. cannot be translated into more recent paint systems as the tinters are different between brands and systems.

The Cooper S engine colour is identical to Chrysler (Aust.) "Sherwood Green Metallic" about 1970s. Was a common colour for Valiants, Galants etc.
I have always used spraying enamel in that colour from different suppliers, over an enamel metal primer like Dulux Metalshield.
Auto enamel is almost an extinct species now so 2K is probably the next option when my supply of enamel runs out. Enamel was a simple, user-friendly, effective and cheap option.

I have always gone with Valiant Tiffany green. My local paint people mix the 2K for me and use the code G75. I always apply a load coat of clear over the top with 30% flattening agent just to take that wet gloss look off.
Of course the engine should be primed with epoxy primer or at least a 2k primer.

Alternatively, some of the Mini specialist keep enamel in tins of the engine green. Mini kingdom, Minisport etc.

Hope this helps.

Ian

That Tiffany Green colour is interesting. Would you have any photos of it on the engine?
The most recent paint I am using is from a local paint shop who claims to have mixed the paints for Mini King when he was in Narellan. Personally I always thought MK's Cooper S green was a little too pale/grey.

Thanks, Peter, for the photo - timW's engine colour looks the same as the colour I use.
Chrysler/Mitsubishi call it Sherwood Green Metallic.

I have found that Sherwood has more of a gold like fleck through it and it more of a vibrant green than Tiffany, which is a little more soft and milky, for lack of a better term.

The pic is of Sherwood, I don’t have one if Tiffany I’m sorry.

A picture of a couple of original paint engine parts I have. Only cleaning has been in a parts washer. Its old paint (3/70 mk2 S) and the colour depends on the photographed lighting (led panel lights) and the phone screen/tablet screen/computer monitor you are viewing it on. TimW's colour seems the closest. Bill, do you have any sherwood colour pics? . BTW, the radiator/engine mount bracket was obviously painted black, then the engine colour was sprayed over it.

It is hard to get a photo that is close to the colour you are looking at, but:

In the above photo, the head and block appear a different shade than the clutch cover area - the whole engine is the same colour as the clutch cover 'when seen in the flesh'.
The 2 photos below were taken in full daylight. The 2 engines in all these photos were painted from the same tin.

It certainly changes with the lighting. Sorry Bill for the Bob before, must be old-timers. Might get the paint shop to mix some of the PPG colour and compare it with the original colour when they paint the car. Thanks.

I'm not saying that Sherwood Green IS the original engine colour. It was the closest colour off the shelf I could find years ago.
Would still like to see Tiffany Green on an engine. Have found a colour card on the web with it, but there are problems judging colour chips too.
Even the thickness of the paint layer will effect the outcome and the factory would not have been too heavyhanded with paint.

You can see that where the engine mount bolts on in my picture above ....

Hello All,
Another colour for consideration is Rover Australia BLVC Sylvan Green Met. 434.
I used that on my engine. ....been there a long time now.

Glen
