Hello Carter,
I'm not sure what the small holes are for. I have one bracket with a small piece of red trim still attached.
the only cars I've had with red trim are 2x 997's.....must of come from one of them.
Sorry I can't help. Someone here will know.
Glen

On early Australian made cars, there was single self-tapping screw used to hold the pocket liner to those 2 support brackets at either end of the door. The screw head was visible on top of the vinyl trim - as in Glen's photos.
Later cars deleted the screw and left the pocket liner to just sit in place. Don't know when the change occurred
My 1970 S also has the single hole in the original door pocket lining boards but without the screw through the vinyl.

The reason for 2 screw holes and only 1 screw? Maybe an evolutionary leftover from the original UK design in sliding window doors, when 2 screws per end might have been intended but phased out as unnecessary.

The bracket HYA3199 has two holes in the top flange being used for fixing of the door pocket liner as described above by Bill. An 850 doesn't have this bracket, the door pockets being lined differently. There are two holes to allow the same part to be used left and right hand sides, only one hole is used per side. There should be two holes in the rear bracket as well. One hole only was punched in the millboard liner front and rear for all production, but I'm afraid I can't find when the hole was deleted from the vinyl covering.

Thanks, Tony. Another of life's little mysteries answered.

What material is "millboard liner" made from?
