I guess my question is, who are you trying to stop taking the car, and where do you see the danger?
Is it a crackhead stealing it for a joy ride?
Opportunistic thief who sees it in a car park?
Their who breaks into the house and steals your keys?
Professional with a trailer or truck?

Another option is a hidden GPS unit which can track it & tell you if it moves when it shouldn’t be moving. That combined with another physical and visual deterrent like a steering wheel lock or the BMC gearshift lock would deter your opportunistic thief, and also cause a lot of noise if they tried to cut it off.

Having a car stolen is an real downer, even worse if, as in the 3 times it has happened to me, the car was torched as well. It is not just the theft of the vehicle but the loss of other personal items as well as the horrible feeling of paranoia the follows.
My route to mini and other vehicle security has a few angles. Visual deterrent via very visible steering locking devices, bonnet locks which are a lot easier on a clubman then a roundnose, ignition and fuel cutoff devices, battery isolators and an entry alarm with the 120db screamer siren mounted in the car cabin (trust me when I say that no one can even think when that is causing your ears to bleed.)
It is very much horses for courses, 10 different people will probably have 20 different ideas. If it works for you then it is a good idea. Others may like different solutions.
