Another quick question about rear subframe parts: the handbrake sector is held on by a nylon washer, a spring and a spire clip on a hydro trailing arm . What is the fitting sequence? Attachment: Handbrake sector retainers.jpg I have always fitted the nylon washer against the trailing arm and spring on top but the parts catalogues show the spring first. Have I been wrong all these years? And I haven't even got to the exhaust system yet! |

I'm baaa-aack! mwa ha ha!!! ![]() I would have thought the nylon to protect the weaker part, so the pivot allowing it to work smoothly. |

This is mine. I think I took pics of the before so replicated that sequence. My Mini guru mechanic would also have advised. Attachment: Rear Trailing Arms 4.jpg

I assembled mine the same as Dougs'. Not really a fun job, I'm glad glad I had a couple of spare retaining clips. |

I think 21A1512 Nylon Thrust Washer for Hand Brake is to stop water getting into 21A1507 Hand Brake Quadrant shaft which should be greased. |

Seems to be unanimous. The nylon washer does look like a seal for the pin. Thanks for your contributions. |

It’s a good idea to check the brass bushings as well. Two each side. One of my arms was missing one. |

If I needed any, not sure if there is a part number for them or just some standard sized bushing. Interestingly, the pin in the cable sector was not perpendicular on either one. Bought 2 Minispares replacements and they aren't perpendicular either. Starting to think they are meant to be off-square. For clearance somewhere, or pivot angle on cable? Or just bent? |

A mate just turned me up another one out of brass. My quadrants were similarly off. I kept them “sided” , cleaned them and put them back in their respected arms. Because they were both a bit off, I left them alone. |

I began to think the same but the old ones are back in the trailing arms now and turn through 360 degrees. The 2 new Minispares ones share the same part number and are not labelled as LH or RH. |

Thanks eightfifty for the drawings. From the dimensions shown, as best I can understand them, the coil spring does not pass through the centre of the plastic - it bears against the plastic washer at its thickest section of the washer and not in the centre area. The 'undercut area' in the centre of the plastic washer you are uncertain about is maybe because the drawing is not to scale. What looks like deep counterbores from both sides, are only light chamfers on the actual part. |
