Hi Thrill seekers. It's been a long time since I posted on Ausmini. I'm hoping the Brains Trust can help. I'm in the last stages of recovering a 1430 stroker motor that did the Big Bang some time ago. It was originally built, I believe, by Max Sherry here in Melbourne and a lovely piece of work it is. I've got it running on the ground, but still have some tuning issues to iron out before it gets put in a car. One thing that has me wondering, is a pair of threaded holes in the head that don't seem to have a use. Could they have been for an additional engine steady perhaps? Not sure. I'd love to hear from anyone who can shed light on this mystery. The picture should explain fully I hope. Cheers, Pottsy |

And I just did a pressure test and the "blind" hole weeps slightly so I guess it's got a pinhole through to the water jacket. The mystery deepens. In the meantime I'll plug the both of 'em. |

Your assumption of LH upper engine steady seems the best bet. Given the mini didn't actually have one there the various brackets that attach via the thermostat housing were somewhat Heath Robinson at best and usually required a sandwich plate, so a modified bracket would be a good idea. |

Thanks Dave, but I can't help feeling I'd want an engine steady to use bolts of at least 5/16" rather than 1/4". I agree that the flat area on the 940 head would be a grouse spot to mount one though. Cheers, Pottsy |
