In my parts collection I have two oil coolers with hoses for my 3/70 Mk2 S. They have different sized nut fittings on the hoses : one has 15/16" (from paint colour on cooler, possibly original for car), the other 1". I am going to get the hoses and fittings stripped,cleaned, re-plated (except the brass one) and new hoses fitted. Just wondering which is more correct ? BTW, I'm not using either cooler on the car (they have been sitting un-capped for 37 years), purchased a new one years ago for it. |

In the second picture, the rhs has the 15/16 fitting and has the car colour overspray on the cooler - probably original. Do I re-use these fittings or the larger 1” ? I know they have different crimps on them and not likely to replicate them exactly. |

Are the threads the same on both oil coolers? I don't have my hoses to hand to compare the nuts but the fitting on the oil cooler is 1/2" BSP. The OD of the thread is 15/16". How are you planning to refurbish the hoses? This will not be a simple job if you are wanting them to look original. The cooler is tested to 170 psi during manufacture so your fittings will need to hold a high pressure. New aftermarket hoses very close to original in style have recently been remade. New repro hoses are available: https://nippycarsonline.com/product/13h ... -cooper-s/ My 8/'70 oil cooler has the 1" tail nuts on the hose ends. Years ago 1 of the original hoses had a serious blow-out so had new hoses fitted to the original ends. As winabbey said, the ferules or crimps were not the same as original. But the hose and fittings were industrial hydraulic and rated to over 1000psi. |

The slots are the indentations of the 2 vertical support braces that hold the grill slats. There were meant to be a set of black plastic spacers used to set the grill forward and away from the oil cooler, but mine had lost these before I got it. There are traces of these on ausdino's too. |

Thanks everyone for replying. All hoses have the same threads. After having another look, only one line has bigger nut fittings on both ends and has different crimps as pointed out by cooperess. This may have been remade at some stage. I have a friend who makes/repairs industrial hydraulic hoses and is confident he can produce something similar to original in form & function. Time will tell. If not, there is the option at minisport etc. |
