Show us your hoists. Thinking of putting one in. Open for suggestions. Would like one that’s shorts as possible

I put in a two poster, reason I have more floor space to use when hoist is not in use and I do not need special lifters to get access to the suspension/wheels when on the hoist, have had numerous mini's on mine without any trouble and have full access to all of underneath without having to work around the platforms on a four post. Have had my old caravan up on mine so I could paint the underneath. At present I am unable to load photos as my Browser guard is blocking them. At present there is a 1968 Pontiac Firebird on the hoist and it is easy to slide around under when up on the hoist, not mine, family member. Most mechanics that I spoke to before getting my hoist preferred the two post, but the posts need to higher than a four post, so a higher roof is needed.

For a Mini? Two post is likely to be more useful...and you can half-height two-posters that can be put in place temporarily to allow better use of garage floor space...

Had a look at the brand that I have and this one seems to be for a lower style roof and to my mind is not a bad price. I have nothing to do with any brands, just a recommendation of type. Mine has the cables running over the top hence more height required, this one has the cables across the floor, so lower post height. Compare this to a four post hoist and you can see how much more usable floor space you get. As for fitting it, my wife and I put it up, all measurement requirements are supplied, took just on a day to get both posts into place and bolted down and we are both in what is described as elderly as far as age goes.

That looks great Graham. I’ve been planning to get one put in my new shed too. Have you had a good experience with the Tuff Lift?

Tim, Yes we are very happy with it, it was easy to erect and put together. The shed that it went in has a ceiling height of 3.6m but the hoist was 15mm too high, but the Tufflift had provision to assemble 100mm lower and we used that option, cables had extra bolt holes fitted so all was good, they were helpful with a couple of questions. We picked it up from the depot in Sydney, it fitted on the back of the Mazda, bit of overhand, but legal. If anyone is considering any hoist, you are better off to buy a brand name as I have heard since fitting mine that some of the ones on ebay leak the hydraulics and do not meet the required standards. JMO

I don’t have one (yet) but have been eyeing this one up over the last couple of days as my ceiling in the garage is too low for most. Plus, it’s designed to be unbolted and stowed away if it’s not needed, which could come in handy in the future.

I am not knocking the idea of this. I see that removing and replacing the posts over the bolts in the floor will eventually lead to the threads of the bolts being damaged, then you will not be able to securely hold it to the floor and it will have to be leveled each time you put it back in place. You will also have two posts stored that are sitting on a relatively small base each weighing some 145kgs each that should they get knocked are going to cause some damage if they fall, they would need to be secured to stop them falling. The 3 inch wheels that the posts are moved on would need a perfectly flat clean floor as if they get caught on a small stone/object and stop suddenly then you are trying to control a lot of weight plus the bolts will still be in the floor and they may be some other cause of a problem. As I say this is just my opinion and I am not trying to cause any arguments. I would think it is just as easy to have the posts in place all the time, then it will ready when you need it.

I have a 2 post Tuff lift also , its great , had it for a few years now , no problems at all so far

Is that a Black MK1 S in the corner?

How do you guys find the bottom base plate between the posts? Obviously it means you can lift the car higher, but is it annoying being on the floor?

Thanks, I guess if you had a narrow garage it'd make it harder to push around an engine crane, but with a wider garage it'd be fine

What size is your shed? Looks like a great size
