G'day all, Through a series of fortunate conversations I've acquired a few boxes of Cooper/S parts. Wondering if these headers are factory S by any chance?  Can't see any markings on them but despite the crappy joins they are in great nick. Thanks and have a good day Peter |

They look like the set that came on my early Mk2 S, the concertina piping looks to be a modification. The lower part of mine had been modified by a PO. |

Yours are the genuine pressed metal extractors as fitted to the Cooper, Cooper S and Clubman GT, but the bottom section has been cut off. and flexible exhaust added, unfortunately. Thanks Clive and Winabbey for the info and pics. I knew the flex pipe was an addition, I guess they are worth the effort in reworking, they are nice and thick. I'm not necessarily building a purist level 'S' clone but I do have S carbs to compliment them. Much appreciated Peter |

Suggest you get them ceramic coated if you plan to use them on your car. They will last longer. |

IIRC, there are 2 versions of these. The 1275 version is 1/4" taller than non 1275 versions as the 1275 block is 1/4" taller. RonR |

The parts books lists part 12A271 for the 997/998 Cooper, and the same or 12G615 as an alternative for the 1275 Cooper S, which suggests either will do and the 1/4" difference is not an issue. Attachment: PUB1011 AC15-1 R.jpg

Just had a look at the engineering drawings for the two extractor types and note that the Cooper part 12A271 has a stem length of 6 7/8" while the S part 12G615 has a stem length of 7 5/32", so a difference of 9/32" (close enough to a quarter of an inch). How they were able to make them to those exact dimensions I don't know. |

The length difference is necessary to allow the bottom part of the pipe and clamp to match up with the clamp bolt hole on the remote housing. The bolt goes in from the top and can be vey difficult to align the pipe and clamp properly to get the bolt started without cross threading it.. It's a fiendish upside down arrangement that Heath-Robinson would be proud of. Ron R |

If I recall the shorter block units had the seam down the entire length... |
