Hey Folks, After some advice! During this time of covid, like many others I am trying to find things to so, so I stripped all the paint off my boolid (about 8 layers!) I have found a lot of rust in the clinch flange. Doesn't seem to be any between the inner and the outer surface but a lot just "inside" the clinch, as shown:

May be hard to see but the flange is actually lifting, and if you can see where I have lifted it all the way there is a lot of corrosion inside...

So is this worth repairing and if so what's the best way to do it, or would I be better off getting a better secondhand one?

I would like to keep it, if it's worth it, as it's the only original panel from my first car (1976 Mini that I bought in 1987 and re-shelled in 1988.). If a new panel is the way to go do Aussie bootlids fit on later UK minis?

Thanks Folks.

It certainly looks saveable to me, there are a few ways you could go about it.

In order of preference

Unpick the skin, remove and have both parts bead blasted, then reassemble, seal seam.

Acid dip (complete) and rust treat then apply seam sealer around the panel seam

Irrigate seam with rust convertor and apply seam sealer

Good luck with it

As the restorers say, if it casts a shadow it is restorable.
