I think you'll find they are illegal here in Vic. They do not classify as an A frame, they are more an anti-collision device and as per manufacturers instructions shouldn't be used over 15mph https://assets.sealeyb2b.co.uk/PDFs/Ins ... TPK353.PDF |

Back in the day people would put their tow chain through a length of water pipe, the pipe in theory would stop a collision if the speeds of the 2 cars weren't matched. Then they would put a hand drawn sign 'On Tow' on the back window. These days I think you're taking a risk flat towing, it can be done safely but probably not worth it with the amount of CCTV and smartphones out there. |
