Does anyone know when the tunnel design changed in the clubmans such that theres a clearance issue with installing a remote change box? Im wondering if it would be easier to transplant the mk2 gearset over to the rod change box and keep with that, or modify subframe and tunnel and mounts to suit fitting the mk2 box. Its for a mk2 engine replacing a 1098. I heard it was around 1973 and assume the produ tion cutover was a certain serial that had several design changes. Also does anyone have a photo or can highlight where the tunnel section varies? |

The tunnel shape in Australian rodchange clubbies wasn't much different to previous cars. The remote shift's tunnel bracket still fits fine. We never got the UK square tunnel here. Attachment: IMG_20210506_44838.jpg I put a remote into a 1977, I cut the steady bar in the middle, threaded each end M12 and made it adjustable. The interference was at front of the floor, not in the tunnel. The diff housing was touching. Pic above shows a 72 Clubby I did recently for a different reason. |

I’m planning on using a HIf6 and expect to push the engine forward , to clear the floor you were shortening the steady is that right? Is it possible to transplant the lay gear and first motion gear? Plus speedo and reverse switch I assume is affected too. |

Yes I shortened it. Yes the laygear and 1st motion shaft/gear will swap. Only reverse gear is different (selector fork groove) between 4 syncho remote and rodchange (non A+) boxes. Edit You can't slide the engine forward much on the subframe with a remote box or the diff housing will foul the steering rack. The cross pin & bosses stick up behind the rack. |
