The headlight dipper switch on 1970 minis was floor mounted. Question: was there a terminal block to hold the 3 wires doing to the switch? My car doesn't have a terminal block and the wires are individually connected to the switch and are very close to the car's metal floor. |

Originally there should be a black terminal block to keep the female spade connectors in the correct orientation to fit the dip switch. You could insulate the bare spade connectors with heat shrink tubing or replace them with insulated connectors. I have joined a spare plug with connectors to an old harness on one on my Minis years ago. |

I’ve just had mine off the car Bill (and it might be a bit different to yours) and it has insulated spade connectors and also a foam/rubber gasket between the switch and the body. |

Does anybody know if this type of dip switch used all the way through 1970? Reason I ask is my June 1970 K had the dip on the indicator stalk when I bought it and I want to know if that is correct or not. Not really important as I have replaced the stalk with a second hand UK MkII type as I wanted to have headlamp flash - I'd just like to know. Cheers, Paul. |

Especially the photo from cgo. I am missing that terminal block. My son suggests the original switch may have burnt out and taken the block with it - as it was an SPO41 car and the police had driving lights with full current load going through it. -Tim: I think your switch is the round base style, same as my '66 mini; and was replaced by the smaller style. Paul's comment above was a question I was also going to ask. The Mini King parts catalogue states the smaller switch was used up to 1968, but cgo's photo shows they were still fitted in 1970. I have just found a NOS unit and it is dated '1584'. |

It’s not the same plug as the headlight bulbs? Or the flasher unit? |

This is the dipper switch and plug on my SPO41 car. I'm certain it hasn't been replaced previously. Attachment: Dipper Switch a.jpg Attachment: Dipper Switch b.jpg The black plastic plug is slightly deformed through overheating, almost certainly for the reason Bill B stated. I tried to find a new replacement plug but didn't succeed at the time. Had trouble getting the BMC part number and the AMP parts lists didn't seem to show it. The local wiring outlet did not recognise the make or model. It still works OK so will just leave sleeping dogs lie. |
