I thought new washers would be a good option as the old ones had a step in them. One side fell to pieces when I removed it, I checked the other side and it’s a similar story. Check out all the cracks

Wow. Not at all tempered properly.

Might be better to grind the originals flat again?

Hi Tim
That is a problem with these washers. they are just to brittle I made some out of chrome molly with no slot in them.
They work really well the factory rally cars used them in the 60's, there was a guy in Victoria making some not sure of his name a lot of the NB race cars are running them and we have them in road cars because of the problem you are having.

Sorry Tim I forgot to say Swiftune sell a good quality washer that work well.

Karcraft are aware of this problem that has just started to occur.

We have sourced a steel FAM9270 which shd be into store within the week.

We will advise the OE manufacturer in the UK about problems we are having with the standard washers.

KAD also do full-circle ones without the split.

We stock the solid ones at Minis Plus (03) 9729 1323. These are the Australian made ones. Top quality part that's been extensively Street and Track tested. We get them directly from the manufacturer.

An update for those interested:
Monday (public holiday) - noticed the broken washers

Tuesday - contacted the supplier (the always helpful Karcraft) with a photo of the broken item and asked if they had any higher spec items in stock. They said some would be coming in during the next week.

Thursday - shipment came in and they’re sending out some of the new steel ones

As usual, perfect service from the Karcraft team.

Good outcome and response from Karcraft.

Since this doesn't appear to be a one-off but instead a batch or brand of an inferior part I hope Karcraft will be contacting all those customers who purchased the original poor part and offering a replacement like they have done for you. Unless I'm missing something this should be no different to the non-automotive product recalls we see regularly.

You would expect Karcraft to also make a claim on the supplier of the faulty washer.
