Hey all.

Need some info regarding wiper motor gearing. I’ve put a 2 speed motor in the van, and have noticed it over sweeps. Chatting to some fellow enthusiasts today and they suggested I check my wiper motor gearing as it could be the wrong one. Attached pic shows what I currently have.

Question is, what should I have? 110 degree?

I have the same gear in my 1970 Mk2 - 2-speed motor.
It doesn't oversweep.

Van or sedan? Just curious if that makes a difference.

Sedan: Mk2 S police spec so 2-speed wipers were standard. It's the original wiper motor for the car, just with new contact plate and self-park contact leads.

Hm... OK thanks Bill. This is the 2nd 2 speed motor i've put in it -first one packed it in but i don't think i had the over sweep issue. Can't remember if it had the 110 degree gear in it though....

To narrow down the situation, what year is the van and do the wipers park on the left or right (i.e. is the scuttle flat or the later indented version)?

Thanks Winabbey

It’s a 67, and they park on the right.
Scuttle looks flat?

Your scuttle panel is for right hand parking wipers using the DR3 wiper motor. The motor you are trying to use was introduced for left hand parking wipers. It can be made to work though.

Yep - as I said, the first 2 speed motor I installed worked fine, but I can't remember which gear it had in it. In hindsight I should have kept that gear....

Gambo - I think that makes a big difference. I don't have the knowledge to assist, but plenty on here will have done it previously. Bill's car has the later indented scuttle and wipers parking to the left, like my car. I think the toothed plate has to be changed to stop the sweep in the correct place.

Hopefully someone will wander past here soon and give the precise steps to fix it.

Thanks Winabbey, appreciate the help. I'm pretty sure I need to change the gear, just not sure which one!

Last thing I want to do is post uninformed comments, but perhaps this discussion is relevant while waiting for advice from someone who really knows. It was for a 12AUW wiper motor in an earlier right park De Luxe like yours.

Hmmm interesting.... I wonder if i should try and change it to left hand park by moving the crank pin 180 degrees....

There's always Tony Buttergieg "Auto Electrics On Wheels". He seems happy to advise on conversions.
