Any tips on stopping the bottom arm rubber from splitting like this ? This is a '66 hydro, so not tapered, and had only been installed 12mths ago with almost no km. Both front side rubbers the same, back side are ok.

Would rubber grease stop this?

It's crap rubber these days.
I am no lover of poly bushes but on early arms I would try them. With grease.

A regular issue these days. There are 20 pages of entries in Ausmini's search function under 'rubber bushes'.
Some comments and information might be useful here:

Ah, thanks Bill. I searched for rubber of course and didn't pick this thread up. I now remember reading this at the time - great info and time saving searching for part numbers.

I had the same issue with the standard rubber lower arm bushes. They lasted about 12 months and then looked pretty similar to yours

I swapped to black poly ones 2 years ago and I’ve just checked them now and they still look as good as when they went in (mine are the later tapered type as I switched to adjustable arms)

I have the yellow poly type ones they have lasted about 3 yrs and still look okay. The black rubber ones didn’t even last 12 months and the car had never seen the light of day

Pleased to hear the poly black ones seem to work. I am going to try a set of these in my mk2.

Hard to know what might work on parallel-type bush housings that Andosoft and 'The Flying Squirrel' would use.

A relative, who works in the rubber industry making conveyer belting, once told me that if you wanted to make real money, go into the rubber chemistry industry. Everyone has their own formulae and their value is their secret formulae for compounds for specialist applications.
