Im removing my all my hydro bags and pipes and was wondering when the time comes to re install and pump up is there all hydro fluid in the system or is there some air as well.
As fluid doesn't compress how does the compression work to give you a nice smooth ride instead of being rock hard.

The hydro displacer is a rubber bladder in a shaped steel tube with a rubber cone enclosing it above. As well as displacing fluid front to rear and vice versa on a bump, the rubber cones flex.

There will be air and fluid in the reassembled system.
The original Churchill or Austalloy pump includes a vacuum pump that is used to extract fluid (air and liquid) first, before repressurising the system. The vacuum pump has a valve in it, that, once maximum vacuum has been achieved and the valve control knob is released, directs fresh liquid into the car's system to replace the air and old liquid withdrawn under vacuum. Then the vacuum hose is disconnected and the pressure hose fitted to pump up the car.

If you can't access a vacuum pump, the next best way is to pump up the car to normal pressure/height, then release the pressure quickly so that liquid and air will be flushed out. Repeat several times. This needs a pump devise with a hose and a schrader coupling - don't try depressurising by pressing the valve with a stick etc, as there is about 300 psi pressure - a lot more than a tyre valve.

I've used the dome headed hydro valve cap to depressurise the system for the past 30 years.
Makes a mess on the driveway (which I hose away) but IMO it's quite safe. Just keep your head out of the line of fire....! :wink:
