Hi All I'm after a panel and paint shop in NSW that has experience working on minis. I need to replace my floors and lower front end panel. Also need the whole car painted. Not many people want to tell you how much their mini cost them to restore, Maybe their partner may find out, a good job costs money, you need to know what your budget is, or maybe buy the CS advertised for $25.000 which is a good price. Most people spend more than they intended to on a Mini When I used to restore American cars you got your money back with a profit as they appealed to a large market. Allen |

I have just seen a quote for a similar sized car for circa $15K...I have also seen quotes for around $400-500 for individual panels like boot and bonnet if you can live with colour matching... However, this job involved trim removal etc if your car is "The car has been completely strip and has not rust instead of the floors" then I would expect the quote to be around half the above... |

PS apart from cost...most decent shops are booked out for up to 1-2 years...that's the big problem! Recent advice on the Braemar shop is top quality BUT done at his pace... |

Hi I just looked at the instagram suggested by hewey. 300 hours x $??? per hour = OUCH AND from the photo it looks like the hydro bags and subframe have been left in for the spray. I hope I am wrong. Good luck, hope you find a fair and efficient repairer. Dave |

The subframe, hydro pipes and brake lines along it also seem to have been sprayed body colour rather than removing and having the body shell on a spit. If the wheels were left on when spraying, as appears to be the case, I wonder what the suspension components in the wheel wells look like now? Just noticed the image is reversed with radiator flitch panel shown on the right and steering wheel on the left. |

Be nice, its mine... The history is that it wasn't going to be a bare metal respray, just closed door. However a few old dodgy accident repairs meant once the panels were taken back the best course of action was sandblast, straighten and panel replacement. There wasn't much rust, it all looked pretty straight. As with most things mini, until you start pulling back the layers that 50+yrs has thrown at it you don't really know what you have. Yes, ideally the subframes would have come out, but the project had already ballooned. Mostly everything was masked off, (hydro pipes not painted), the rest i will just have to clean up and re-paint the engine bay side of subframe. Overall i'm very happy with the job though, quality repairs and paint job that should last for another 30yrs. I'll add the story to the members gallery at some stage. |

The paint looks amazing and, as you say, will hopefully give several decades of enjoyment. Having the subframe in body colour really stands out compared to the original satin black in the majority of Minis, hence the comment, but that's something you can change yourself. I fully understand the need to limit the spending when rust and previous repairs that were hidden present themselves. I think you've made the right choice to get the body panels done well while you had the chance. I look forward to your story in the Members Gallery at some stage. |
