Post subject:  Diff Crownwheel and Cage and output shaft bush clearances

G'day all
I can't seem to find this info anywhere in the manuals
I'm replacing the bushes in my diff cage and crownwheel and am going to a machine shop to have them sized.
What clearance is required (1 thou?).
Also replacing the output shaft/sideplate bushes-what is the clearance required for these (1 thou?).
Thanks
Dave

I would give both the cage bushes 1 thou clearance.
This is also what I give the diff side cover bushes when bored after fitting.
Give the machine shop the pot joints or output flanges to measure.
I find the diameter of new pot joints can vary by up to a thou depending on brand.

If using old output flanges or yokes, if worn they can be machined down a few thou before boring the fitted bushes to suit. These bushes are 10 thou undersize approx.

How did you get the bush out of the diff cage ?

I've not done one but if I did I would bore it out in the lathe, same as I've always done with primary gear bushes.

I left the old ones in the crown-wheel and cage and asked the machinist to bore them out and fit the new ones.
I did manage to easily replace the output shaft bushes but I don't have the equipment at home to do any machining.
