Post subject:  7.5" rotors on Metro(?) hubs

This is going to be a long post...

I'm assembling a mini I bought that was pretty much fully disassembled when purchased.
I'm currently rebuilding the front subframe.

It had 12" wheels and 8.4" rotors.
I'm going back to 10" wheels and 7.5" brakes.
I bought a ' 8.4" to 7.5" conversion kit from Minisport, like this:
https://minisport.com.au/mini-brake-con ... s-calipers

I discovered the the front hubs were probably from a Metro when I realised the ball joints were the sealed, screw in type.
The ball joints presented no problem, but the 7.5" rotors are giving me some grief.

Firstly, the bare hubs didn't fit into the back of the rotors as they did not have this shoulder:

I quickly fixed that in my lathe and eliminated that problem.

I now have an issue where the rotor is interfering with the hub before the bearing is correctly tightened/preloaded.

How much clearance is typically seen where I have the arrow?
I guess I'll have to fit the caliper and possibly make a spacer for the rear bearing to centre the caliper on the rotor.....
Just thinking out aloud, more measuring and investigation required...

Has anyone else struck this problem? Am I meant to be using different wheel bearings or other bits with these oddball hubs?

THANKS!

Okay, I looked at this again today and it's just not gong to work out nicely.

Anyone have a pair of front hubs they are willing to sell?
Brisbane preferred..

Metros had a drive flange with different offset to a mini - most likely as a result of the lower ball being being further 'out' from the middle of the car.

There's hubs available new although I understand if you'd prefer original or 2nd hand. It's a option...
For example:

That's a pretty sharp price, probably the cheapest i've ever seen for those bits.

Thanks Fuzzy. I wonder is the steering arms fitted to mine are the same as what a regular mini should have..
I think they have a part number cast into them, I'll check tomorrow.

I'm looking for some metro steering arms - they're easy to tell from a mini cause they're a full inch longer.
If you have metro ones and are willing to part with them let me know! I might even be able to rustle up some mini ones for you as a replacement!
:)
