I’m currently doing a big tidy up of the wiring on my late 68 Mk 1 Cooper S. Many previous owners have made for some very messy wiring which I am trying to put back to original layout.

Currently I need to tidy the part of the loom across the grill that feeds the headlights, parkers and indicators.

For some reason (maybe the wires got cut) there is lots of bullet connectors. Apart from the original red connectors on the right side there are some in the middle of the grill, some on left inner guard and some under both the guards.

Can someone with an original harness explain where the connectors should be.

Also where should the wiring pass through the inner guard. Currently all mine pass through the opening either end of the underside of the slam panel. Or should some or all pass through the hole lower down on the inner guard?

Thanks.

Through the holes at the end of the slam panel is correct.

My deluxe wiring had connectors in the middle of the grill as well from memory, they looked standard.

Yes! The new Vinwire harness for my ‘69 Mk2 ‘Should has those connectors at middle of slam panel, as did the original harness.

Ok thanks, so after the red Lucas connectors at the end of the main harness...is that it?

Are the wires to the lights ie headlights and the parkers, normally long enough to reach and no further connections?

....another question. If the red Lucar connectors do end up in the centre of the grill, (and my harness seems to be right fit for this to happen) where are the connectors meant to sit. Are you meant to try and tuck them up inside the slam panel in front of the bonnet catch, or do you just let them hang down in the middle?

They shouldn't all be in the middle , some are on the right side and some on the left as well as the center , this way the harness tucks in neatly inside the slam panel , there are metal tabs that hold the harness in place

Left and right indicator connectors are on LHS and RHS , headlight connector is to one side of center , with park light connector on other side of center

Ok great. I think that’s starting to fit with the parts of the harness and connections that look original.
