Post subject:  squeaks in the front of 1970 hydro
Cant seem to find the noise, mainly happens when going slow over bumpy roads any ideas ? everything is new

Did you use rubber or nolathane/poly bushes on your suspension?

Poly tends to squeak if not lubed up, might be work considering that?

From the post subject, I assume your squeaks are coming from the hydro displacers. If this is correct, did you clean your bags with methylated spirits? If so, there may be residual metho still in the displacers.
I have cleaned my displacers with metho and then they were stored for over two years in a 50/50 mix of metho and glycol.
If you do a forum search, you will find evidence that people have got squeaks in their displacers, if they used metho in their fluid mix. With the 50/50 metho cleaning mix, I found that I could get a definite squeak from the displacers even playing around with them by hand. I am using a 50/50 glycol/distilled water mixture in my displacers and found that I needed to clean them 3 or 4 times to get rid of the squeak from the metho.
I have just reinstalled my displacers back in the car. In the next week or so, I should have my car back on the road. Hopefully, I do not get the dreaded metho squeak.

ok thanks ,the squeak sounds like metal to metal I have already moved the grille forward because of the oil cooler.Squeak is still there I may have to put the car on a hoist.

1. Check your bayonet fitting of the bag into the (sub)frame - or integrity of frame, fatigue / cracks where bag locates
2. (Replaced?) caged needle rollers and shaft used into the top arms - wear already possibly evident with poor metallurgy properties

My guess is the knuckle joint has worn through the nylon cup.

That is the most common cause of squeaks in hydro. Was going to suggest it too, but Allen said everything was new. But I replace the grease in the new ball/cup with something I recognise.

If the squeaks are from the displacers, was the fluid branded or home brew? Squeaking displacers were a problem in the early years of hydro but fixed with a change to the fluid formula.
Allen may not have much control over the fluid used by someone else.

It’s funny how the terminology changes through the years. In my day working in a BMC dealership, they were called a strut foot and the nylon cup was a strut foot seat.
My comment is not being critical of anyone.

Yes, interesting how differently parts are described in the BMC literature versus the workshop. I'm sure we could make a long list of alternative names for various parts.

Had a quick look in the Mini parts books and see that the term knuckle joint and ball socket were used to describe these parts from the first 850 through to the Clubman and Leyland models.

Thanks for all the assistance I have found the problem, the grille was new when I did the resto the rivets that hold the grille bars are loose hence the metallic sound .
