Post subject: | Seatbelt stowage clips |
Hello All, I am looking for information on the stowage clips used with Australian made Britax- Wibroc Lyfe-Loc Seatbelts. I have a 1962 997 fitted with these belts. They appear to be period correct. The only evidence of the clips are small holes in panel below the side window in the same location as later model cars. The holes for the clips are 47mm apart. I would imagine they would have had 2 lugs to hold the seatbelt as there are 2 "D" shaped holes in the tongue. I recall a Forum member saying his father worked for BMC in that area but I can't remember who it was. Any help will much appreciated. Regards Glen |

Thanks but no. They are the later ones for seat belts with a single hole in the tongue. The mounting holes are also too close for for the existing drillings Regards Glen |

The holes you have must have been made by a previous owner or by the BMC dealer as BMC didn't start fitting belts on the assembly line until much later. Try some Google searches as the clips may have come with the belts. |

The MK1 Cooper S was the first Australian Mini to be fitted with seat belts as standard in 1965. I don't recall any previous Australian built Minis having seat belts fitted as standard. My first Morris 850 in 1963 didn't have them and IIRC Mini Coopers, both 997 and 998 versions, didn't have them either. RonR |

Hello Guys, Thanks for the interesting replies. Yes Dave I made the $24.00 purchase as well. Doug, I keep a lookout on google . I found a photo of a complete Britax set that had the stowage clips in the set so I would say you were right. GTO Green, The brand is Britax-Wibroc Life-Lok made in Australia. Two hole tongue-- lift up buckle to unlatch-- grey webbing. The seatbelts were in the car when I bought it 30+ years ago. Regards, Glen |

On one of the BMC engineering drawings for seat belts a clip, part number HYA2289 is featured. Do the holes in your car match the measurements shown? It may be exactly the same part as HYL3607 mentioned earlier. The HYL prefix is given to BMC accessories sold by Dealers but the same part will have an HYA prefix for design and manufacturing purposes. My car has "new" 2005 dated seat belts. (Marginally safer than 1965 belts?) I went back to the car to check the hole spacings and with luck, the sunlight just shows the outline of the original clips. It is a Sept or Oct 1965 S so it would have had belts. The hole spacing is 1.8? inches so it matches the HYA2289 diagram. Was it a 90 cent option? I will let you work out the correlation between the clip diagram and the impression in the paintwork. |
