I have a ‘63 Mini 850 body that needs a metric shedload of work. It’s missing the floor, centre tunnel etc. and needs some work around the pillars on the LHS. If it wasn’t for the matching numbers engine/box, good subframes and other stuff I would probably just sell it to someone to use for body cuts.
With the work that I will have to do to restore it, especially around the B&C pillars and inserting new floor/sills/tunnel, I’m thinking it’s a good opportunity to do something like a Minisprint. Whilst I would love to get Mr Trickett to work his magic I don’t have the money to ship it off to France.
I have chopped and channeled old Fords and Chevs in the distant past building hotrods and also have some skilled friends who still do that stuff every now and again so there won’t be a shortage of people to play with angle grinders and MIG welders.
The bit that is missing is rough cut lines, particularly around the front of the car. I would be looking at 2” out of the body and 2” out of the pillars. I think I’m ok with the cuts from the A pillar back but can’t find much info on how to slice and dice the front including firewall and inner panels.
I’m not in a rush to build and probably won’t be able to start on it until next winter once I have finished my survivor ‘63 850 and installed the V8 in my MGB so will have plenty of time to measure and measure and plan and measure before I cut.
Does anyone have any info they can share on this?
