Moved the mini to one side of the porch to get the front end of the commodore in for some suspension bushes that needed doing. Painted the radiator surround, then went to fit, but old one had screws in and new one needs bolts. Picked up axle stands and torque wrench from aldi, think its time I stopped using bricks!

Test fitted 2 of my new mambas yesterday!

They stick out past the guards about 3 inches so I think I need to find some flares.
Still unsure on what type!

They were never NOT going to stick out though, but geez they look great. My favorite wheel ever!

Yesterday, I started to replace the single row timing chain with a duplex vernier setup that I've had lying around for over a year! :lol:

Did this because I had a oil leak from the seal, and the chain was making a lot more noise. The single row was quite stretched. As I had to countersink two of the holes on the front engine plate, I removed it. Bugger, I had forgotten to order the front plate gasket. :oops:

G'day Jim!

There's a gasket template in here. viewtopic.php?f=25&t=82577

Print it out and use it to cut out a template on gasket paper. The size will be exact on A4.
Supercheap have rolls of gasket paper in the gasket isle which is the right paper to use here.

(pick up some wad punches for the holes too, they're great!)

Not mine but martys.. dropped the pretty motor in the hole. Connected everything up primed the oil pump and cooler hit the key and broom. Couldnt have started any easier. Really sweet sound too.

No, not at all. The gasket won't affect any running clearances on the timing gears.


Gotta be careful with the thickness on the Primary Gear Cover. Nothing else though.

I like to use thick paper myself. The gasket paper you buy in the roll has a good quality feel about it. I use the same roll for just about everything except the primary gear housing.

Changed the fuel hose from the pump to the carb. The old one was falling apart.

Hi Mick. Unfortunately the A+ engine has slightly different shape gasket for the front engine plate. I think its because of the tensioner. I will pickup some gasket paper and hole punches to add to my arsenal though! I've ordered a new speedo cable, whilst it's easy to get to the bottom connection. Are you supposed to grease the inner cable, and what type grease... moly or high melt?

Hmm, you mean the timing gear cover or the one between the plate and the engine, I thought the one to the engine was the same? I should drop in the timing gear cover however. I'll get onto it.

Light grease will do, either type. Its more about having a grease in there then any particular type.

They do look sexy!
And I knew they would stick out so was expecting to get flares anyway.
Hence why I test fitted so I could measure up for flares!
