Operations Manager at Vancouver Heat Treat took the "new" clutch plunger into the lab. Prepped the nose and the tail of the plunger for Rockwell Hardness test - tail 5.8, nose 6.4, clearly not EN24...and may never find out what crap the piece is made off...necessary before knowing whether anything can be done.

Likely just junk.

Have alerted seller of new bits so he can try and go upstream to source...will likely face flim flam.

Appreciate the alert I got here from dr mini!

The material would be free machining steel, useless for any heat treatment. But when plated, they look nice, so the punters buy them. :x

Installed a rear sway bar and rear adjustable camber plates. Also adjusted ride height and decided it's time for new cones. They don't look like they've sagged much, but they've gotta be at least 5 years old and feel hard as a rock to the touch. I've also noticed some squeaking back there so I imagine when I replace all 4 cones I'll also throw in new knuckles.

Side note - on occasion the exhaust bounces against the new sway bar and makes an annoying noise. What would you wrap around there to kill the noise without melting?

@ Bkozan - Exhaust wrap will do it, but it will wear through very quickly. Better off fixing the mounts so the exhaust won't move that much. My sway bar bolts to the rear sub-frame, so it's well out of the way of the exhaust, even after I got the new stainless one up as high as they could make it. From memory, if I had been more inventive with my sway bar mounting I could have got it up above the bottom of the sub-frame & bolted it to the upper side of the bottom of the C-section at the back of the frame, but I wasn't that worried about it at the time. I hope that description makes sense to you when you look at the sub-frame.

Today, I changed the wiring of the electric fan so it's controlled by the ECU & only comes on at 80 degrees, instead of being on all the time.
I wired up VTEC too. It kicks in at 4,250 RPM. >:) Amazing how much soot & crap got spat out of the exhaust when it activated! She was not happy about the washing still being on the line nearby! I might need that tune now. This arvo I think I'll have another look at the 12v LED indicator idiot lights & see if I can get them working.

The mini had it installed when i bought it.. I thought i would clean the engine bay today and i bumped the hose, The crimp where the copper elbow is must of dislodged and it now squirts oil out.

If you can't find a hose, run the good hose from the block to the filter (bypass the cooler).
All the end fittings are the same.

Sounds like you need some good DrMini style 500psi hoses... 8)

Put in a new aerial ... took a while.. i had to tiny little mini enthusiasts "helping" (2 and 4 years old)

also put some RainX AntiFog on the windscreen... hopefully it will make it a bit nicer to drive home from work during this typical ballarat winter!

Oil change, changed out ball bearing for a good old fashioned plunger, quick tune (really need an afr...) and ultra fast tape wheel alignment :) happy times

I have a 1098 engine that came as part of my unfinished K project. Was told it was a good runner and the previous owner had given it a paint job rebuild.
Pulled the head off it today and found there was no head gasket whatsoever!!! The head was bolted on and torqued tight without a gasket. Dodgy brothers :/

That's just how tight the tolerances are on their engineering skills!
