Had a great run up to Hawke's Nest motor fest as well. Great day, great cars. Had the pleasure of meeting "cooper19613" and other mini enthusiasts.
Car ran like a dream, except when just off the freeway, heard a loud metallic scraping sound. Thought the WRX next to me had dropped a gearbox or something. Turned out the vibrations from the freeway running had loosened one of the front number plate screws despite loctite being used. The number plate was scraping on the road........

No major damage to the plate, just a few scratches.....if that's the worst, I'm happy!

Serviced Claude, the 970 Cooper. Oil, filters, tappets, plugs, points. Then fanged down to Dan Murphy's with him to get some beverages;-)
He just purred there and back....the long way.
Tomorrow clean and polish and then back into the man cave.

Tried to remove outrigger bearing rings from 2 flywheel housings by heating housing with my 500C hot air gun, then thumping down on some plywood.
Got them both 1/2 way out, have decided to make another puller like my recent idler bearing one, but BIGGER. Stay tuned..

Put a BMC sticker of the front windscreen and a "floats on Fluid" and a Australian Made" on the back window.

Greetings All.

Had a PITA day on the 850. Oil chage. Such a simple job and everything that could, did!
It's a spin on filter. The only way I can get these off, is using a chain type gizmo.
Well, crushed the filter and its leaking oil. Damm.
Too late to stop, kept going and snapped the chain (Mmmmm.... I borrowed this!)
Took a long break.

Decided to unbolt the filter unit complete. Bit fiddly. Doh! tried to take the pipe off and twisted the bend.
Had to put it all in the vice to get the filter off! Unbelievable tight?

Anyhow had another pipe in the spares. All done. All cleaned up. Ready for work in the morning.

Alex.

K&N filter HP-1002 best things ever - they have a 'Wrench-off' feature - a nut on the bottom a 1 inch socket is all you need to remove the filter sooooooo easy :D

I took the mini out for a local run today to pick up the chilluns from skool. Poor old thing hasn't had a run in ages.
The twin 1.5s are still a revelation.

I noticed that MY MINI HAD SPRUNG AN OIL LEAK.

MY MINI HAD SPRUNG AN OIL LEAK.

MY MINI HAD SPRUNG AN OIL LEAK.

MY MINI HAD SPRUNG AN OIL LEAK.

Now this will not do I said.

I had a peer down the back of the engine and spotted two things.
1: the tappet cover center bolt had some oil leaking from the grommet (Changed it out, gashed my hand)
2. The main culprit was the flexible oil hose to oil pressure gauge connection at the firewall. I pulled apart the clip and rebent the clip back into shape it so it pulled up neatly. Gashed my hand again, luckily straight down the middle of the first one for maximum discomfort. Really drove that grease deep into the wound.

Now the oil leak is gone, normal viewing may resume.
