I spoke to a policeman at Bathurst (I was in the lost childrens tent!! ) who had owned an LS in the period and he said that one reason the Mini went to Glbn was that it was getting knocked about at displays...I said how sad is that!

Shirley, someone in authority could authorise the acquisition of another for wider display? If they can dress up Bentleys, Porsches and other high end cars...why not a Mini :?:

Several weeks ago I rang Goulburn Police Academy to ask if the public can visit to see the car and other exhibit items. They seemed a bit surprised. No-one knew because no-one has ever asked before.
A few days later I rang again and spoke with the Inspector. He seemed happy for visitors providing they ring a day before as it is a secure area, unless you are a serving officer. Weekends were OK too.
Could be a car run destination for those in the area.

Doug,

Was Dana Jennings previously a motorcycle cop on the NSW Far South Coast, do you know? If so he is the cop who tested me for my driver's licence in 1965.

Cheers

DavidE id say so, he was south coast based and the police funnelled the motorcycle division into minis due to the high incident rates

Well I'll be. 51 years later. It's a small world. Thanks for closing the question, Doug.

When you say "far south coast".... my 8/70 STP "S" was stationed at Bega (late '70- early '71). Their area didn't go to the Hume Hwy, only Cooma.
Does that fit with any servicing personnel?

The NSW Police had a reunion of retired Special Traffic Patrol and Highway Patrol members last month at the HWP headquarters at Huntingwood.

The little white Cooper S looked a bit out of place among its bigger, more recent cousins. Here it is between a marked Mitsubishi Cordia and an unmarked GTR Torana.

I have bit my tongue mostly...but have to say...it would be great to see HWP vehicles actually patrolling again

I took a run down to Goulburn today and just could not believe the appalling behaviour in the right lane...trucks sometimes, but mainly empty-heads on cruise running a rolling road block and to hell with anyone else who might want to travel at the posted speed limit!...and don't bother reminding me we should all be patient and just pull our heads in and wait until it is safe to overtake...
