Yeah they have been sandblasted, they claim.

They send their stuff out to get blasted, though.

Not sure if this helps but it appears to me that the power coater did not prepaparethe wheels correctly

http://www.alu-info.dk/Html/alulib/modul/A00384.htm

Failures in the powder coating process and how to avoid them (Topic: 14112)

Poor earth connection

This fault happens if there is insulation within the circuit. The insulation is most commonly caused by powder coating on the hooks. To avoid this failure the coating has to be removed from the hooks by burning, using a paint stripper, or knocking it off by a hammer. The powder application equipment (the conveyor) should have special earth connection.

Poor cleaning between colour changes

This fault is very easy to observe, especially if the cleaning between colour change from black to white has been poor. Black powder particles will in such cases appear on the white surface. To avoid this thorough cleaning of the powder application equipment has to be carried out between colour changes.

Pin holes

Pin holes appear as small spots without any coating. Pin holes in a powder coating is caused by entrapped moisture from the pre-treatment which evaporate during the curing process. To avoid this defect thorough drying of the profiles needs to be carried out.

Cissing

Cissing is non-uniform wetting of the surface. The fault appears as areas or spots without any coating. To avoid this defect thorough degreasing is necessary.

Down load the consumer complaints form fromt he net fill it out and either send it in or alternatively go to your power coater and say here is the complaint, please fix my wheels or I will be force to lodge the complaint.

willy not sure about this but it looks like the bubbles are only in the powder coat and not in the actual alloy it self.. I think with a good sandblasting they may come up alright.... I know its time and money.

Just a thought mate, take the wheels to another powder coater and ask them what they think. Im sure they will give a honest opinion on what the cause is and a posible solution as they will most lekely want your business.. Who know they may give you some advice on how to approach the clown that did this to you wheels.

Good luck
Mike

A new powder coater sounds like the best approach, only now that the rims have a thick and hard coating on them it will take more time, and money to get them blasted again. How you would get the difference in price out of the Dodgy Bros. Inc. is another story. Maybe a trip back to convince them their business doesn't need the bad publicity unhappy customers can provide them :?: Doubt I would leave my rims with them again though. :x But maybe they would like to pay to have them sandblasted again and you will leave them alone.
If worst comes to worst you could park the Verada(?) out the front of their shop one day with a small sign and talk to some of their future customers about the quality of their work. They may see reason. Not sure about the legality.
Nice colour by the way.

I had my grille sand blasted by a guy who pretty much only sand blasts, ready to be powdercoated. When i took it in to the coaters he took one look and said it wouldn't come out very well (bubbles etc.), as the sand blasting technique used was not the right one for this type of work..

He then took it and sandblasted himself using a different method (can't remember his exact words), and it came out a treat- very happy with it. 2 years later still no rust (unlike my painted effort). Very helpful chap as well. That was down at lonsdale. I will be going down there this week and can get his opinion if u like and/or pm u their details.

I think it all comes down to prep like most things..
If he knew his sht he would've warned u first :?

I'm missing something here....how are they ruined? I assume when you took them in they needed to be blasted....they did a crap job (no argument there) and now they need to be blasted, and it hasn't cost anything. I can't imagine the process will have affected the alloy, so you're back where you're started aren't you? Last time I got wheels blasted it was NZ$9ea

From what I can see, its only the back of the rims that are bad. The fronts have a couple spots on them but thats all. Nothing I would complain about.
