Verto clutch setup is weird compared to a normal Mini- flywheel is not bolted to the crank, the diaphragm is...

If you think they are strange you should see the clutch on an Austin Montego.

Yeah, I was a bit worried about the whole verto set-up, hence my re-engineering of the clutch slave cylinder and arm to use the old style (I needed the space)

Matt TheMiniMan has done heaps like this, with holes in, he's never had one break.
Likewise GR.
My 1310 regularly saw 8000 on the track, no problem.

I think facing them off .200" is fine, I'm just wary of drilling big holes or (worse) milling slots thru them.
If you want it that light, go buy a steel one.....

BTW if turning them, make sure there's a nice big radius on the lathe tool, you don't want a sharp corner at bottom of cut.

And they MUST be rebalanced afterwards.
@drmini in aust do you have a past comment/explaination on how you do the balancing on these after machining?

I am retired now but I used to take them to Graham Russell. With or without a crank.
He balances the crank or uses his own,
Then bolts flywheel on and balances that, then adds the backplate and does it too, finally adds the diaphragm, uses which of 3 positions that shows best assembly balance. This all done on a dynamic balancer.

GR is doing my flywheel.
I have heard a one-piece is desirable, as it does not tend to 'weld' onto the taper of the crank, due to the big difference in metal types.
So I will hunt down a one-piece before Friday when I fly over to Syd

I am taking a backing plate too, he is lightening that also.
Might have been a freak incident but I had a 1 piece off my 1300GT engine weld itself to the crank making both parts unusable.

This is what I’ve just finished the other day, similar to what Matt Read does only the slow way by hand. It came in at roughly 13lb. Just going on a road car, 1150cc with supercharger.
