Sounds like the steering parts should not be worked on by your local back yard mechanic but by a proper mini mechanic

Don't worry about them 9YaTaH your are just providing a community safety announcement which should be taken with concern

Just like its illegal for us home mechanics to work on our brakes they must be done by a licenced mechanic thats for any car not just a mini because if your at fault in a brake related smash say goodbye to your insurance payout if you cant prove a licenced mechanic worked on them last

In my 25 years working for the government - brakes, steering and suspension repairs were overdone. A qualified mechanic would do the work under the watchful eye of a Trade Supervisor and then an Independent Inspector would come in at certain points for sign off.
I am surprised that this is one area that has not been legislated.

It is actually going backwards. The NRMA Road Service blokes don't need a ticket anymore.
The bloke fitting the tyres and the bloke doing the wheel alignments don't need any tickets either.

What about the apprentices that do most of the work in dealerships. (ok if working under supervision but most of them are unsupervised)

Then there is the forum that demands to know the qualifications of people before they can argue over the colour of a Cooper S jack. (Oh how we laughed!)

I think it is only NSW that require mechanics to have licenses.

Hmm, I see. A few guys, over 20 years, that want your business?

I still want to see the legislation.

Funny how my local brake shop is still happy to sell me his stuff to take away!
And, do all the brake pads on Supercheap's shelf get fitted by a licensed mechanic? Any signs? No I didn't think so.

On the other hand, you can buy electrical and plumbing supplies at Bunnings but the law says they need to be installed by a licensed tradesperson.

No idea what, if anything, is in place for motor vehicles. Don't think I've ever thought about it. :|
