Are these recycled saucepans really any better than a real Oz 3 core brass/copper rad with 16 gills/inch, or are they just needless BLING??
Anybody tested one for cooling efficiency?

I would say that they are needless bling.
But unlike the proper radiator these are not easily repairable.

I am sure that someone will soon post a comparison between a new alloy rad and a 40 year old standard one with a blocked core.

Not wishing to rain on anyones parade here, but it is interesting that the Metros were originally fitted with Aluminium Radiators in 1980 and 1981, however from late 1981 they went back to copper ones, since the Aluminium ones were a lot cheaper it makes you wonder why they opted for a dearer one????

I'm not saying don't go for these, but just think it past the price and the 'bling'.

Sorry I'm not a fan of Aluminium Radiators, it's just one more dissimilar metal in the cooling system, which because of the coolant and that it is circulated and at varying temperatures it just does not sit quite right with me. Sure you can add and monitor coolants and there are some very good ones about, but if you neglect this - even for a very short time - you could pay a very heavy price. :?

Yes, yes, we do have an alloy thermostat housing, but these are fitted as a sacrificial annode placed where it can easily be seen and is fairly inexpensive, but a radiator on the other hand...........

As seen , 100$ for a new radiator is not really a big deal when some are paying 300 for things like gear knobs. :?

The midas runs a dront mount metro rad and it has lasted some 26 years now and works really well in Australian conditions, don't know how these chinese ones will go but I did buy one out of interest and at $120 they are cheap and they do look well made. I used to co own a rad shop with my brother in law and these are as good as any alloy rad we got made in OZ and they used to cost us more the triple the price so we will see how they go, the bling factor is great for those who desire that but I will probably paint mine black

Hi bill.b, (for some reason the following was omitted from my post) By all means go for these things but just think it through a bit before shelling out for (what looks like) a 'cheap' radiator. You could have a lot - a real lot - more to 'loose' than just a $100.00 radiator......

Might do better spending $100 on a good temperature gauge first.

What you say here is fair enough and I'd listen to that since you have come from a long term radiator back ground. I do look on with interest.

I think they have come over the ditch

So they will not fit a mini shroud, what about the one piece type

Can anyone please give me the dimensions of these radiators. Due to the Super charger, i cant fit anything bigger than the standard mini rad, so if its the same size as an LS one, im not sure its going to fit without me cutting up the shroud, which i don't want to do.

Cheers,

Cam

I've got one with the supercharger, same size as original.

I've just bought one. Is there any more updates from people that aren't just saving them for 'ron and are actually using them?

I installed one into my car. I was a little concerned to the width of it incase I'd have to modify the shroud but it sits about 4mm off.
:D

Went in easy enough, though I did make an angle bracket to screw to the side of it as a means of keeping crap out of there that may come through the grille, and keep airflow directed forward.

well,,, i`m pretty sure i posted on this before, but, they are roughly the same shape & size of the std mini rad,,, but the shroud does need a little nick out of each corner for the alloy rads tanks are a bit more "Square" edged,,, so with a slight trim the rads can sit inside the cowl better & will allow the bolt holes to line up far better

& we`ve now been running our first alloy rad in the twin cam for i just can`t remember how long now,,, litterally years & all is well & wonderfull too :-)
