That is true.

I don't think I could afford to do that, and there's a bit of sentimental value in this mini as it is, because I bought it off the person who did all of the work to it, and he has since passed away. So I'm sort of just carrying on with what he started.

The idea of a built A series in a standard subframe has crossed my mind many times. But that might be a ways down the road from where I am now.

How much did you have to beef up the suspension?

When I got it it was running what I assume we're the original rubber cones with new (standard style) Munroe shocks and hi-los. It didn't have any issues except the hi-los thread was cut short, so it couldn't actually be raised past a certain point where the wheels always scrubbed. (Don't know why the hi-los were modified to begin with)

I upgraded to adjustable Gaz shocks, new hi-los and new road/race cones. But realistically it would have been fine on standard suspension if the hi-los had the thread to raise it to a reasonable height.

Hope its got a decent skid plate...could the engine position be jacked up without effecting bonnet intrusion too much? Then again, a phat bonnet bulge like the 1500 had might look good?

That's how low the gearbox hangs under the car.

The exhaust is actually slightly lower than that, with a flex joint near the remote gear change housing that sits probably 50mm off the ground.

Without modifying the bonnet that's as high as the engine will sit, and the diff lines up with the drive shafts perfectly at this height too.

Ohhh Dear, thanks...a sump guard might be worthwhile then if nothing else changes...a quite unusual engine swap so I suppose it is worth saving. Good Luck :D
