Instead of buying a complete gearbox with maybe the right ratio diff, just buy the crown wheel and pinion with ratio you want.
Put an add in wanted or ring the usual mini suppliers.

Looking at buying this g-box but don't know what it is exactly and neither does the seller. He says it was off a running 1275. I want it to put on my 1098 from a Morris 1100, which has a 4ish :1 ratio from the morris, too low for the mini. Really, I just need the diff. Any way to tell what it is or if it will work? Will the diff just bolt into mine?

What are you intending to put it in ? You can get later leyland complete boxes with better ratios for not big bucks .

and synchro on first...

I just want it for the diff really. It’s going in my mini with a 1098, currently has Morris 1100 diff. New gears are $300+ perhaps I should try for a second hand cw+pinion. I’d settle for 3.4:1 I think if the price was right. I assume I’ve currently got a 3 sync as it’s from a 1966 (I Think) Morris 1100 but not sure as I haven’t driven it yet.
