How many revs are we talking?
I have the rev limiter set to 8000 but it usually only sees that on the track, usually it's around 7600 or so

Mine is set at 7500, still running a Lucas 16 ACR and stock pulley.
No problemo yet...

Hmm, Doc, does your car get to 100 km/h in 2nd at 7500 rpm? Mine would if I had the courage to go to 7500! (close ratio box with Mini K diff).
7500 I'm guessing is way past max hp, would acceleration to 100 km/h be quicker if you changed to 3rd at say 6500 (peak hp in mine) even though the gear change would cost time? Would certainly be easier on the poor engine!
How does one know what the "safe" max rpm limit is for a particular engine? I'm ignorant on these matters...!

When I had mine on the Castle Hill dyno 10 years ago it made max 86.6 HP at 7000-7200 with 38mm chokes in. We took it to 8000 to check.
It does have an S EN40B crank in, I would use a lower rpm limit with an EN16 crank.
I usually shift at 7000 max on the AutoGage tacho, but it's damped and in 1st gear it's easy to just hit the 7500 limiter.

Hi Kev
And how many times do you run yours up to 8000rpm? no where as many as chux does that I can promise you.
Just for the record we have tried just about all the alternators on the market including the MED race ones, none of the std type ones have heavy duty bearings or windings which we through to pieces they were not meant to rev that hard for long periods.
The only ones that stay together are the Nippon Denso industrial which have wider bearings, high speed bearings and high speed windings, but we still run a big pulley, and this is why you can buy after market big pullies for the alternators.
