If you have a dial indicator why not use it to accurately measure the end float that you have now .4mm I think you said? then measure the new thrusts and calculate what you need taken off them to get the figure you want? Then you can give your machinist an accurate figure to work with! and I agree with drmini 5thou min. I always try to get 6thou so I have a constant figure to use. It's always a bad idea to mix imperial and metric measurement's, it's just too easy to faff it up! pick one and use that, I'm sure your machinist can work to metric if that's what you have.

yea cheers mate, i thought my brother may have saved the day as he had an 1100 s crank ready to use with bearings etc...... but it was a small journal so still no good. i then went to the effort and decision of thinking ok ill use the rods and pistons from my s motor and buy new rings......... rang up my usual mini supplier and theyre sold out of that ring!!!!! wow....... ewont get them for another month. so i think ill just go back to basics and put an 1100 s crank in just needs a clean up (linish) and measure to see if it needs a grind and from there we shall power on.....
