I think I've only seen one Mini in Kelp Beige. It was a Deluxe, and isn't Kelp Beige anymore.

Just wondering if anyone has seen my old cooper S around
I sold it in the early 90s to a guy from Cronulla way
It's rego at the time was KHP-746

Looks nice and clean, despite the colour it is very period and something different. Good panel gaps always a bonus. Hopefully its still in good nick.

What influenced me to buy it , apart from the fact the old guy had owned it since nearly new ,
was the fact that it was so original.
Nothing had been fiddled with.
The paint looked OK from a distance , but up close not so good.
Him and his old mate had resprayed it at home.
It had some runs here and there , but overall pretty good.

Another shot of one of the cars above. This from the Mini 50 Show 2011 in Melbourne.

I'm surprised to see a Mk2 in kelp beige. I thought that colour was Mk1 only.
Obviously not. I doubt anyone would paint it that colour unless that was the original shade.

Dougs old one that is now with the cops was originally Kelp Beige. They must have brought back the colour for a few.

I have two separate colour charts/codes for Minis and both list Kelp Beige as being a 1967 colour only.

Possibly showing my age here but "browns" were very much a favoured colour in the late sixties to early seventies and possibly a prospective buyer put in a special order for his/her brand new Mk11.

That would be right as Bronze Beige is a 1971/72 colour, formally known as Shade Number 12971.

The only Kelp Beige car that I can recall having seen in the metal was an "S" for sale at Noosa about fifteen years ago. It had a light coloured interior, probably doeskin, and was in absolutely immaculate condition. Indeed, the whole car was very original. Hopefully it went to a good home and may even be in the hands of someone on this forum.

If that's the case then we should update the MK2 S register for the 2 Kelp Beige cars and change the colour to Bronze Beige

I'm not sure that that is the case because it was possible to put in a special order for a new car with a colour from a prior year. The apparent Kelp Beige Mk2 shown in the photos is a case in point. If it is a genuine Mk2 and the ID plate (paint sticker) says that it is Kelp Beige (albeit a 1967 colour) then we have to accept it as such.
