I'll try and scan the artical later and post it up , I've only got the issue that Morris 1100 posted the cover of which is the final instalment of it (part 6) , the donor car was an 850 and if you look closely at the magazine cover you can see some of the original 850 (both windscreens for example , headlights ....) .

The motor is 850, the rack was Triumph Herald, I think the windscreen may also be Herald, front suspension was Herald with Mini Hubs, the doors are based on cut down Zeyphr doors, the gearchange was made from Imp bits.

The car was finished in 65 when the common mini was 850 and before the 998 Deluxe.

It's definitely a variant that needs to be found and restored , I thought the styling was pretty good , especially when you consider it was 1965 and look at wghat else was on offer at the time .

Those second lot of pictures show that it is a lot more appealing than the first one would suggest.

I'm interested in the lights though.....how do they work? Do they tilt upwards from the back?

At first many said it was ugly.
It is oviously too tall but had a certain Italian/French cross breed
feel about it. But then again, its sort of
got a E Type 2+2 cabin look to it. Now that's one for
the text books... "E Type 2+2....How to destroy the most
beautiful shape in the world"

Something I've never liked is the pop up lights. IMO they will create more drag, so why is it mainly sporty cars have them :?: :? If it were me they would be styled similar to the E-type lights with the plastic cover over them that follows the body line.

But with that said I do like these with their curved rears, at least they tried to make it more aerodynamic :D . Over all I don't mind the look of this car either 8) .

The main reason for pop up lights is to meet the height rules.

I remember having a chat with the Bates brothers at Bathurst at a 12 hour meeting. They were having trouble with the MR2 that they were going to drive in the race. They found that during the night time practice the car was about 20kph slower than during the day.
I suggested that it may have been the pop up headlights slowing it down and that they should try following another car down the straight so that they could see where they were going and turn the lights off.

I suppose the smart way would have been to try turning the lights on during the daytime practice!
