so how do i stop the wear on my rubber uni's mainly the u-bolts are getting the most wear.

I agree with the Doc, if possible, go with inboard pots. Not hard to do except for removing the motor and sourcing the pots, drive shafts and diff output shafts. Did it in a day when my son dropped a universal (rubber) on his Pizza deliveries. Luckily had the bits on hand and made easier by not having to fit the diff output shafts, just replace the whole diff assembly.

i have all the parts except the drive shafts in my shed for my 1275 motor which i'm rebuilding, but i'm not wanting to use these parts until my motor is finished.
is it hard to change the diff with the engine out.

No it's not hard at all, only tricky bit is shimming the bearings on reassembly. if you have a manual and the shims, it's easy.

Just put rubber ones back in. There not that bad if your using your car normally. If your going to thrash it, well no, they don't last, but what part does? :wink:
