6 Binnacle nuts and the 2 top nuts moved up.jpg
My Mini has all 6 nuts as in the picture, would that make it an early Cooper S?

That is the setup for the Mk2 range of cars which uses a one piece Speedo binnacle screwed to the firewall directly. Not just for the Mk2 S.

Reading the BAT comments I was surprised that so many have no idea what the stampings should look like.

The trouble is who has access to a genuine stamping to compare? I had one 40 years ago but the memory doesn't store details for that long these days

I wondered about the MkII register entry. Seems incredibly coincidental that the the car and engine no are almost the same....

And one of the problems with the BAT website is that you can't share potentially disparaging information with the seller privately without giving BAT your credit card details.

Cheers, Ian

There were quite a few cloned Coopers sent overseas in the 1990s and 2000s to NZ, Japan, Canada and USA. I am sure more will pop up in the future. The mini world is much smaller now due to the internet sales.

What's troubling about this car is that the ID has been tampered with.
Also, looking at the Queensland Rego sticker, I don't know how they managed to get it registered (did not inspect ID number?).

Are you referring to the plate on the slam panel? That is just a dealer stock number from UK Motors QLD and that number would date the car to late 1970.

No, there is a Queensland rego sticker on the side window showing the ID as YG2S4746.
